Three-Phase Real-Time Compensators KMT-3

KMT-3 type real-time three-phase compensators are designed for individual and group PFC of the loads characterised by fast varying active and reactive power consumption. The welders, injection molding machines, elevators, arc furnaces belong to these loads. The compensator together with resonance reactors (KMT-3..D type) creates dynamic higher harmonics filter.

In KMT-3 compensators the classic components controller and air contactors are substituted by a combination of corresponding high speed controller and thyristor power modules. Utilised microprocessor controller allows for fast thyristor modules switching on and off with response time less than 20ms. Fast response time ensures for sudden switching on of suitable quantity of capacitor stages, according to present load requirements at each given moment at compensated load or network.

Connection and disconnection of the capacitors to and from the network occurs at zero current crossing. This smooth connection avoids the transient effects typically created by classic switches.

Undisputed advantages:

  • considerable reduction of absorbed and given reactive energy fees at fast varying loads conditions, which can’t be guaranteed by classic systems

  • prevents voltage drops and flickering

  • enhances capacity of supply network – it means possibility of connecting and serving additional loads without replacement of supply transformers, cables, distribution apparatuses and devices necessity
    maximum reduction of active power losses in supply and distribution network

  • harmonic filtration (KMT-3…D type only)

  • dramatically increases the life expectancy of switching elements and capacitors
